I’ve got a pretty severe grinding problem. I have a lot of medical expenses at the moment and cannot afford an actual mouth guard. Do the over the counter ones work close to the dental office ones?

Sara,
An over-the-counter mouth guard is better than nothing, but with a grinding problem you will go through them pretty quickly and end up spending more (in the long run) than if you had a custom made guard done. If you have any kind of dental insurance you can check to see if it will cover any of the expense. If it doesn’t, you can look into Care Credit which has a no interest payment plan.
If you decide to go with the store bought mouth guard, they come in small, medium, and large sizes, as well as a one size fits all. If you don’t know your actual size, you’re better off with the one size fits all.
