I had four crowns put in several weeks ago and they are still very sensitive. My dentist says that is normal and to just wait it out, but it is hard for me to eat. They’re sensitive to hot/cold temps as well as biting down and flossing. What do you think is going on?

Beverly,
It is normal for crowns to be sensitive for a while after they are placed. It can take several weeks for them to settle down. You have the option of getting a second opinion though. Another dentist will be able to tell you if there is something obviously wrong. Your other option is to wait it out. Treat your crowns gently for a while, but don’t stop flossing. It is important to keep them clean.
If you choose to wait it out, your teeth should begin to improve fairly soon. If they take a turn for the worse, you’ll want to be seen. It is possible that you will need a root canal treatment.
