I don’t know what to do, I absolutely do not want mercury in my child’s mouth, no matter what the ADA says about its safety. Is there no way to give a child white fillings?
Amber M. – Pennsylvania
Amber,
Your denist is mistaken. It is possible to give a child white fillings. I will give him this. It isn’t always easy. The filling has to be kept completely dry. That is sometimes difficult for a child to do. They have to keep their mouth open and not let their tongue hit the filling.
However, there are dentists who are comfortable and experienced in giving white fillings to children. I suggest you look up mercury-free dentists. Many of them will be more experienced. However, you do need to ask how comfortable they are with children. You won’t necessarily need to find a pediatric mercury free dentist, but you do want to make sure the dentist you pick loves working with children.
