Loose tooth won’t come out
My daughter has a loose tooth, but it just won’t seem to come out on its own. It’s been over two months. When I tried to get it out, she completely flips out. It seems to stretch, but not come off. Should I take her to a pediatric dentist?
Louisa R. – New Mexico
Louisa,
The ligaments that hold the tooth can be quite elastic and hold on to those little teeth like it’s the last piece of chocolate on earth. Generally though, it is better to wait until the tooth is ready to come out on its own.
If you want to take her to a pediatric dentist or even a general dentist who enjoys treating children. They can look at it to see if there is anything unusual wrong with the tooth.
If nothing is wrong, then I would let the tooth take its natural course. You can also have your dentist remove the tooth, but honestly, if the adult tooth is not ready to emerge, you’re better off leaving the tooth there to hold the place open.

Would it be safe to go to Mexico for dental care? It’s much more affordable.
I’m considering going to Mexico for dental treatment. I just can’t afford treatment in the U.S. I just wanted to get a dentist’s opinion on whether it is safe to do so.
Melissa M. – Texas
Melissa,
I know it is tempting to go Mexico for your treatment, especiallly if you live on the border. But, I cannot tell you that it is safe.
Mexico does not have the same standards as dentists in the United States. In fact, there are no laws about sterilization. It is at the descretion of each dentist whether or not they sterilize their equipment between patients. You’re really taking quite a risk.
There is a way to get affordable dentistry in the safety of the United States. Most dentists got inot the practice because they care for people and want to help. You’ll find there are quite a few that have a plan for people who have trouble affording basic dental services.
Talk to your dentist regarding your circumstances. I’ll wager he or she will have a way to help you get the care you need.
